I use the HP 15-da0384tu laptop, and it has windows 11 and a HD display and Intel HD 620 graphics. Since I broke the display recently, I was thinking of maybe upgrading to a FHD display since I’m going to replace it anyways. I want to know if it’s possible for my laptop to be upgraded to FHD. Thank you.

@Lion25, Thank you for your response.

Yes, you can upgrade your HP 15-da0384tu laptop to a Full HD (FHD) IPS display, and it should work perfectly as long as the panel is electrically and physically compatible with your system.

Key Considerations for IPS Upgrade

Connector Type: Your laptop uses a 30-pin eDP (Embedded DisplayPort) connector. Ensure the IPS panel also uses a 30-pin eDP interface.

Resolution: Stick with 1920x1080 (FHD) resolution. Going higher (like 4K) is not supported by the Intel HD 620 GPU in this model.

Mounting Brackets & Dimensions: The replacement panel should be 15.6" with the same mounting points (typically 30.5 cm wide, 19.2 cm high).

Cable Compatibility: Some IPS panels may require a higher-quality eDP cable than TN panels. If you're upgrading from HD TN to FHD IPS, it's safest to also upgrade to an FHD-compatible cable (e.g., HP part L23064-001).

Recommended IPS Panels (Examples)

  • BOE NV156FHM-N4K – 15.6" FHD IPS, matte, 30-pin eDP
  • AUO B156HAN02.1 – 15.6" FHD IPS, matte, 30-pin eDP
  • LG LP156WF6-SPB1 – 15.6" FHD IPS, matte, 30-pin eDP

These are widely used in HP and other OEM laptops and offer better color accuracy, viewing angles, and brightness than TN panels.

I hope this helps!

@Lion25, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

Yes, upgrading your HP 15-da0384tu laptop from an HD (1366x768) display to a Full HD (1920x1080) panel is technically possible, but there are a few important considerations to ensure compatibility and a successful upgrade.

Compatibility Check

The HP 15-da0384tu model series was offered with both HD and FHD display options. This means the motherboard and GPU (Intel HD 620) can support an FHD panel. However, the display cable used for HD screens may not support FHD resolution due to bandwidth limitations.

What You’ll Need

Compatible FHD Display Panel
Look for a 15.6" FHD (1920x1080), non-touch, matte or glossy panel with the same connector type (usually 30-pin eDP).

FHD-Compatible Display Cable
If your current cable is HD-only, you’ll need to replace it with one that supports FHD.

You can check the compatible part number on - HP PartSurfer

Basic Tools
A precision screwdriver set and a plastic pry tool will help you safely open the laptop.

Steps to Upgrade

  1. Power off and disconnect the laptop from all power sources.
  2. Remove the back cover and battery (if removable).
  3. Disconnect the old display panel and remove it carefully.
  4. Check the display cable – if it’s labeled for HD only, replace it with the FHD-compatible cable.
  5. Install the new FHD panel, connect the cable, and reassemble the laptop.
  6. Boot into Windows – the system should automatically detect the new resolution.

can the FHD display support IPS instead of TN and still work perfectly with the laptop?

So my motherboard has a 2 lane eDP right? Also thanks for your time.

HP Recommended

@Lion25, You're very welcome! 😊

Yes, your HP 15-da0384tu laptop is equipped with a 2-lane eDP (Embedded DisplayPort) interface. This is typical for laptops that originally come with an HD (1366x768) TN panel. A 2-lane eDP can support FHD (1920x1080) resolution, including IPS panels, but with some limitations:

What 2-lane eDP Means for You

  •  Supports FHD (1920x1080) resolution at 60Hz
  •  IPS panels are supported as long as they use 2-lane eDP and 30-pin connectors
  •  Higher refresh rates (120Hz+) or 4K panels typically require 4-lane eDP, which your system does not support

So, as long as you choose a 30-pin, 2-lane eDP FHD IPS panel, you're good to go!

Take care and have a great day.

One final question. For a correct display, would the replacement displays/display cable from the Elitebook 850 G6 be compatible? And that’s my final question, thank you.

Hey @Lion25,

Thank you for your response

The compatibility of components such as displays or display cables between different laptop models can vary significantly depending on the design and specifications of each model. The HP 15-da0384tu and the EliteBook 850 G6 may have different screen sizes, connector types, and mounting differences. It is important to use parts specifically designed for your laptop model to ensure proper functionality.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
