HP Laptop PC 15-dy2000 (2D117AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi all----> long time no see.

I have a HP Laptop 15-dy2048ca (2L7J7UA)  and I'm having trouble with the connector pin continually falling out of the power connector.   Sometimes it's 3 or more times per hour and its been doing this for a couple of weeks.   Is there a way to fix this?   Do I need to buy a new power connector?   I bought a new laptop charger as the cables/ wiring on the old one were becoming very stiff.   I thought would help, but it's just reduced the number of times that the connector pin falls out of the power connector.   I read on how to change the power connector.   It seems easy enough, except for having to remove the battery, SSD, RTC battery, card reader board, fan, system board, subwoofer and audio USB board.   Any suggestion?

Hello @Hugger1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Since you have already replaced the AC adapter and the connector is still repeatedly losing contact, the issue is more likely with the laptop's DC-in/power connector or its connection to the system board, rather than the charger itself.

Since all troubleshooting steps have already been performed and considering that the issue still persists, we recommend having it evaluated at an authorized HP service center where our certified technicians can provide a thorough diagnosis and offer the best solutions to address the issue.

Hello again Meghana_10.  Thanks for your response and suggestions.

I ordered a new DC-in/power connector yesterday for the laptop and it should be here today.   I won't be taking it to an authorized HP service center where their certified technicians can provide a diagnosis and offer the  solution to address this issue.   The issue seems pretty straight forward to me and I'm comfortable working on the inner workings of a laptop.   After removing the components that need to be removed so I can replace the DC-in/power connector I'll replace it and then put everything back where it belongs.  Thank goodness for YouTube!!   What did we do before YouTube?  Oh, yeah pay a technician because back then a lot of parts were soldered in and were not user-friendly for the end user to replace.  Replacing parts for a lot of electronics has become easier as companies look to save money any way they can.

Thank you for the update and for the information. @Hugger1

It sounds like you've already done your research and have a good understanding of what is involved. We certainly appreciate your willingness to update the Community with your findings.

Since the charging issue can sometimes be caused by the DC-in connector, power cable, or system board, checking the surrounding components while the laptop is open may help identify any additional concerns.

We're glad you found a repair option that you're comfortable with and hope the replacement resolves the problem. Please feel free to come back and let us know the outcome.

Have a great day!

I'm an HP Employee.
