HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15-eg2000 (4U8D7AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I need a docking station for my HP Pavilion 15-eg2153cl laptop.  I bought an HP Elite USB-C Docking Station but it could not detect the external monitor.  All I need is an HDMI port for the monitor and a few USB ports for devices.

I am frustrated as the one I purchased said it was compatible with HP Pavilion Laptops but obviously it was not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It ONLY has 1 hopeless SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to

  • Charge your machine,
  • Connect to an external monitor with/without hub/dock/adapter

If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (only-total 3), you can use

  • Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,
  • Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

                                     USB to HDMI Adapter

Other (USB-A dock) :   https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05357751

Thanks for the reply!  I returned that docking station so do not have it to use.  I only want to connect 1 external monitor and use it and the laptop screen at the same time.

What docking station do you recommend? (the link you included was to a port replicator)

The ultimate goal is to only have one plug to the docking station from the laptop and all the peripherals would be on the docking station (including the docking station powering the laptop)

If you wish ONLY 1 external monitor, you can use its HDMI port. No need to buy any dock.

NO, as mentioned on my reply above, You can NOT use its USB-C port to charge your machine.

Thanks again BUT if I do want a docking station that will connect to the laptop and charge it as well as support an HDMI monitor and USB ports, which model should I buy?

(this is a present for my wife who wants to be easily able to move her laptop between home and office with one simple connection to the laptop)

Nay I say again: NO, your machine is NOT compatible with any such docks. You have no buy a different machine which is compatible with a USB-C dock.
