HP Envy x360 m6 Convertible
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello everyone,

I have an HP laptop (HP Envy x360 m6 Convertible) with the following specs:

- Multi-Format Digital Media Card Reader

- 2 SuperSpeed USB 3.0

- 1 supporting USB Boost

- 1 Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0

- 1 HDMI 1 RJ-45 (LAN)

- 1 Headphone-out/microphone-in combo jack ports

I also purchased two dell monitors (model: P2419HC) that support the daisy chain feature when connecting multiple monitors. Each monitor has the following:

- Power Connector

- HDMI port

- DisplayPort (in)

- DisplayPort (out)

- USB-C connector

- USB Downstream ports

Each monitor comes with a Power Cable, USB-C Cable (C to C) and a DisplayPort (DP) Cable.

My question is:

How do I connect my laptop to both monitors? I want to use both dell monitors as extended screens (not duplicate screens). My laptop, however, doesn't have a displayport.

Currently, my laptop is connected to Monitor 1 using an HDMI cable. Monitor 1 is connected to Monitor 2 using a displayport cable and usb-c cable. however, neither one of those options worked. Seems like only Monitor 1 is getting signal. But Monitor 2 doesnt detect any signal at all. I have already messed with the monitor settings but that didnt solve the issue.

Will purchasing an adapter (hmdi to displayport) fix this issue and show extended screens on both monitors? I would use the adapter and plug it into my laptop's HDMI port. Then I would connect my laptop to Monitor 1 using displayport cable. Monitor 1 would then connect to Monitor 2 using displayport cable.

Any help would be appreciated. I have looked at previous posts but it doesnt seem like theres a clear answer.

Thanks,

An adapter will work all by itself as long as it is DisplayLink. The dual HDMI adapter you ask about would work. A dock is just a usb to HDMI adapter and then extra devices all connected via the same USB. So as I said you might see an audio jack, some extra usb ports, an ethernet jack all on the dock but the HDMI would function just like an adapter. DisplayLink is not a real fast video system. It is definitely not for gaming as you will get stutter and such. It just is not capable of carrying a lot of bandwidth.

If you connect one external through the HDMI on the laptop it would have better bandwidth. You might use that monitor to do your CAD or other demanding work on and then use the one connected to the USB adapter to keep your email client program open on or your spreadsheets. As @banhien pointed out you do not have a USB-C or Thunderbolt that is capable of directly driving multiple monitors out of one port.

You have one HDMI port on the laptop. It will drive exactly one monitor. You cannot daisy chain one monitor to another monitor. To have dual extended displays you are going to need to get a docking station/port replicator/adapter. The second external monitor will have to be driven off one of the USB 3.0 ports using a technology called DisplayLink which can send a video signal over a USB connection.

Something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/ABLEWE-Graphics-Converter-Projector-Compatible/dp/B07TT6WZ7V/ref=sr_1_5?crid=...

This will require a driver to enable the DisplayLink hardware inside the adapter. You can also get more expensive devices that will provide ethernet, perhaps 2 external monitors, extra USB ports, audio, etc.

Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.

Your machine does not have suitable USB-C port to support daisy chain. USB-A dock with DisplayLink Certified feature should work.  If you wish to have 2 or more external monitors, please enter your requirement on the following link and it will find for you few options on market today including some HP products:

or try following HP docks

My pick

      HP USB-C/A Universal Dock G2

@Huffer,

If I were to purchase the USB to HDMI adapter from amazon, would it work or would i need to purchase additional items?

If additional items are needed, could you please provide a link to them? Also, would there be any issues with speed when using large software programs such as AutoCAD and other engineering software? Keep in mind i use multiple programs at once.

Thanks,

@banhien

So you're saying there isn't a cheaper option other than to buy a universal docking station?

An adapter wouldnt work?
