Thanks!

I will probably go with the smaller screen next time.

Hey Huffer, do I need to encrypt my SSD or some files/folders before I send my laptop in for repair?  All I can think of that is really confidential is my Quicken and TurboTax data.

If so, can you recommend a program I can download, one that is easy to use.

Or is the initial password protected startup screen (Windows 10 Home version) good enough to keep my information confidential?

Many thanks!

I don't send my laptop in for repair too often. I do know if you encrypt the hard drive you will just risk having them refuse to work on it if the issue is anything software related and I assume yours is hardware only. I always remove my hard drive and put another one in because there is a high chance the tech will re-image it to factory image no matter what repair they are doing.

If you do not want to remove the drive make a full backup and then restore it when the laptop comes back....send it in blank or restored to factory or with just a a bare OS on it.

I agree.  The easiest thing for me to do would be to remove my drive and put in another one.

Will doing so give me any problems with HP, like voiding my warranty?

Thanks!

Should not but I learned long ago not to make predictions how HP is going to react to any situation.
