Microsoft Windows 11

My probook's wlan card is awful. it is a RTL8822CE. My internet is always around 60Mbps but with this laptop it regularly drops to sub 15Mbps especially when coming out of sleep.

I jumped through all HPs hoops hoping they would change the card to a different one but they wouldn't. They did change the card for the same make/model and when that failed to correct the problem they changed the system board - what a waste.

I ended up buying a intel 9650 which is an alternative for my model, but the probook frefused to boot. The keyboard would light for a few seconds before turning off again. Screen remained dark. There were no bios beeps.

I checked and the secure boot option is disabled in the BIOS.

Does HP lock their products to not work with non hp supplied components?

You're very welcome.

That is what I had mentioned in my reply.

The HP specs are definitely incorrect and the best card you can install I have given you... the description, part number, the service manual reference and a source of supply.

The configurable options for your specific notebook model were

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 9560 802.11a/b/g/n/ac (2x2) WLAN and Bluetooth 5 Combo, non-vPro
Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax (2x2) and Bluetooth 5 combo, non-vPro
Realtek 802.11ac (2x2) WLAN and Bluetooth 5 Combo

Since you installed an IntelAC 9560 and are having problems it would make me tend to believe that there is an issue with the new wifi module.
Optionally you could return the AC 9560 module and install an Intel AX201 non-vPro module

As far as I am aware, the days of the device blacklist as in the past.

Hi, @Paddy3D

You cannot install any Intel CNVIo model wifi cards in your notebook, such as the 9560, or AX201.

The HP specs on the webage cannot be correct because the Intel 9560 and AX210 will only work in select notebooks with Intel processors and chipsets, and only if they came with one of those cards in the first place.

Chapter 3, page 20 of the service manual shows the only supported Wi-Fi cards that will work in your notebook.

Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)

I recommend that you go with the first one listed...the Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 + Bluetooth 5 (non-vPro)   HP part # L35282-002

There is a fair amount of them for sale on eBay.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm confused. The references posted here list different wlans. I went for the Intel 9560 as that was what I found on HP site as being an option.

***Edit - I've just read that the AX201 is only compatible with intel chipsets so that would suggest the HP web page is wrong***

I had a chat session with HP and they confirmed the cards listed in the manual to be correct.

Thanks again.

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.

That is the same HP part number Intel AX200 card HP installed in my HP notebook that has an AMD Ryzen 5 4500U processor.

Card ordered.

Thanks again Paul - I really should have read your first post carefully - instead of jumping to the part numbers.

You're very welcome.

Please post back and let us know how if that model card works.

It should.

The L35282-002 arrived today. I got a new one on ebay for £25.

Fitted the card, Windows recognised it and installed drivers. I then used HP support assistant and got it to check for updates. It removed the RTL drivers and installed the HP Intel wlan and Bluetooth drivers.

Afterwards all the problems I had with the RTL8822 were gone. I get consistently speeds near or equal to my broadband. Severs on my network such as plex display instantly, instead of the gradual fill I got with the RTL8822.

It doesn't matter if its a fresh boot, of woken from sleep, no speed drop. under load, consistent top speed.

I can't believe HP still use the RTL8822. They replaced the wlan card and the mainboard, which I knew wouldn't fix it. Even the two guys who came out knew it wouldn't work.

Anyway - thanks again.
