HP ENVY x360 - 15-aq123ca
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi! This is the specification page for my HP ENVY x360 - 15-aq123ca laptop, found using the serial number:
https://support.hp.com/rs-en/document/c05381474

Could you please advise if the motherboard supports installing the Samsung 990 EVO Plus 4TB SSD in my laptop?

Thank you!

Hi:

Theoretically there is no limit to the capacity of an NVMe SSD you can install as long as the drive is single-sided so that it can fit in the SSD slot.

A 4 TB SSD should work in your notebook, but no one can 100% guarantee it and there are no related discussions on this forum where someone installed a 4 TB drive in the model series.

This is the only related discussion I could find.  Many of the other discussions indicate that the notebook only supports SATA SSD's, but we know that isn't right since your notebook came with a NVMe SSD, and the parts list confirms it is a NVMe SSD.

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook's model series:

HP only offered a 256 GB NVMe SSD in the model series.

Since the M.2 SSD slot is only PCIe Gen 3.0, a Gen 4.0 NVMe SSD will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds from the Gen 3 slot.
