Product: HP Pavilion laptop
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11

I have recently bought a second hand HP Pavilion Laptop model I5-cd025na Prod ID 2GR87#ABU it's a good machine and currently running Windows 11 with no problems. But! I find the keyboard a little dim to use and some of the lettering very small, some back lighting of the keys would be great. Does this model have the backlit keys, which are not functioning, or was it not fitted?

NOTE: On select computer models, the f5 action key turns
the keyboard backlight feature off or on

 

So try the F5 action key and if nothing happens you have no backlight. Official specs for your model say you do have a backlit keyboard:
