HP 17 Laptop PC 17-c2000 (4V792AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have the above-mentioned Laptop. Not too Old. I was wondering if it supports OTG connection via the USB C port. I want to purchase an adapter, but it states to ensure that my laptop has this capability. I have updated all the drivers as per HP.

Hi @EP68,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I’m sorry you’re going through this; I understand the concern and don’t worry I’ll help you with this.

To help clarify, could you provide a few more details:

  • Which USB-C port on your laptop are you planning to use (if it has multiple ports)?
  • Are you trying to connect a specific device via OTG, like a phone, external storage, or peripheral?
  • Have you checked your laptop’s specifications for features like USB-C data transfer, Power Delivery, or DisplayPort support .

In the meantime, here are a few steps to help confirm OTG support:

  1. Check device manager – Open Device Manager → Universal Serial Bus controllers to see if the USB-C port supports data transfer.
  2. Test with a compatible device – If you have a phone or USB storage device that supports OTG, try connecting it directly to the USB-C port.
  3. Update drivers and firmware – Make sure all USB and chipset drivers are up to date via HP Support Assistant.
  4. Check BIOS settings – Some USB-C features may need to be enabled in BIOS/UEFI for full functionality.
  5. Also I see that the unit model that you have shared has an embedded USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C (supports data transfer)  .

Once I have the answers to the above questions, I can help you determine definitively whether your laptop supports OTG and which adapter would work best.

I hope this helps.
