What is your Pavilion Laptop 14-ce1xxx ? For example
It supports dual storage option with M.2 NVMe/SATA + 2.5" HDD. It has 1 TB 5400 rpm SATA now, you can add M.2 NVMe PCIe 3 to your machine using compatible drive such as https://www.crucial.com/ssd/p5-plus/ct1000p5pssd8/ct20138860
Regards.

Hi, @arnob2500
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
Chapter 1, page 3 has the supported drive types.
Your notebook's M.2 slot supports both SATA and NVMe SSD's.
NVMe SSD's provide faster read/write speeds than SATA.
The M.2 PCie slot generation is 3.0.

Yes, you can install a 500 GB NVMe SSD and use the 1 TB 2.5" drive for storage only.
You won't be able to have two operating systems on the drives because the notebook will always want to boot from the 2.5" drive first and not the SSD.
Notebooks that come with dual drive configurations from HP have no operating system on the 2.5" drive.
A PCIe Gen 4.0 SSD will work fine but only at the PCIe Gen 3 speed.
The max sequential read/write speed you can get out of a PCIe Gen 3 NVMe slot is 3,500 MBPS.
