Does my laptop support NVMe ssd? I am planning to buy samsung 980 NVMe M.2 SSD. Could I proceed buying it? Here is the product link of what I am planning to purchase

https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/980/

I have referred to the user manual in your website for cc130tx and it says:

For use only on computer models with model numbers 15-cc1xx and 15-cc6xx:
● 512-GB, 2280, Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe), Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe)
solid-state drive
● 256-GB, 2280, PCIe, NVMe solid-state drive

Could I proceed buying the samsung 980 NVMe M.2 SSD? Please help me out HP team.
Waiting for your reply.

You're very welcome.

I have provided the link to the discussion where a NVMe SSD worked in the 15-cc100 model series.

That's the best I can do.

Hi:

Yes, the 15-cc1xx model series support NVMe drives.

The Samsung 980 should work but you will not get the maximum speed out of it due to the older generation PCIe M.2 slot your notebook has.

By the way, NVMe drives do not work in the 15-cc6xx models as we have found out through many other members forum posts.

Here is proof that a NVMe SSD works in the 15-cc1xx model series...

Hi please suggest me which NVMe SSD would you recommend me to buy?

I have searched for 2 models, one is the Samsung 980 and the other is Samsung 970 Evo plus

Please suggest me which one suits the best for my laptop.

Hi:

Based on the pretty big price difference, I would go for the 980.

The 980 and 970 will probably run at the same speed in your notebook's M.2 slot.

Thank you so much for the super fast response.

I would like to know the what is the gen of PCIE slot in my laptop.

How do I know which generation my PCle slot is

You're very welcome.

HP does not provide that information to the public, so unfortunately I do not know.

If I had to take a guess...3rd gen.  I don't know how many lanes...would be two or four, hopefully four.

Hi again

Could you please tell me how to identify whether the laptop has the PCIe/NVMe M.2 slot by opening the back?

I have just visited a laptop technician and told him to open up the back of my laptop. He said that it has PCIe/NVMe M.2 and he told me to take a picture of it.

I am also attaching the picture of the slot for which he told me that it has NVMe/PCIe M.2 SSD slot.

Could you please tell me looking at the picture whether it is a NVMe/PCIe slot or not?IMG_20210712_192354.jpg

Hi:

Sure, no problem.

I circled in orange where the M.2 NVMe slot is, and circled where the hold down screw goes.

Hi Paul

Thanks a lot for your really fast and detailed response, one last doubt, from the picture of the SSD slot which I have attached, I just wanted to know how did you know that it is an NVMe/PCIe M.2 slot? There is not indicator or any printed text saying that it is NVMe M.2 slot. I seriously wanna know what indicator made you and the laptop technician come to know that it is an SSD NVMe M.2 slot
