Hi guys, just wondering if my laptop has an M.2 port on the inside before I go out and buy one, I could buy a 2.5" SATA drive and replace my hard drive, but it's preferable to keep the hard drive as extra storage. If it does have an  M.2 on the insides, what specifications is that? SATA? NVMe? A specific size?

Many thanks,

L

Yes, you would be able to install a larger capacity M.2 SSD than what HP has listed.

Those are just what they offered in the model series.

The spec is M.2 2280.

Here is the link to the Crucial memory report for your notebook.

As you can see they sell compatible SSD's beyond what HP has listed.

Hi:

Yes, your notebook has a M.2 slot that supports both SATA and NVMe SSD''s.

NVMe SSD's would provide faster read/write speeds than SATA.

Below is the link to the service manual.  The supported drive types can be found in chapter 1.

There is also a service video library for that model series which has assorted videos for removing and replacing various components.

To ask for some more clearance on this, I'm looking at the supported drive types, for single drive configs, The "NVMe solid state drives:" list 512GB and 256GB.

And then for "Dual Storage Configurations" there is "256GB PCIe, SSD + 1TB 5400 RPM drive"

Are these just factory parts you can order as replacements? Or is this a limit? Would I be able to install a 1TB NVMe SSD & keep the 5400 RPM Hard Drive? Furthermore, in the service manual, there is no Form Factor for the NVMe SSD is it safe to assume that it'll be the same as the SATA m.2 ?
