Mouse pad makes my screen go dark. When I get screen back I check for updates and start download. Go to restart and my laptop and it is stuck in endless restart mode. Wth.

1. Resolve Endless Restart Loop

It seems like your system update is causing a boot issue. Here’s how to address it:

Perform a Hard Shut Down:

  • Press and hold the Power Button until the laptop turns off completely.
  • Wait for a minute and turn it back on. This may interrupt the loop.

Boot in Safe Mode:

  • Restart the laptop and press the F8 key repeatedly as it starts up (on some HP systems, use Esc or F11 instead).
  • Choose Safe Mode from the advanced boot options menu.
  • Once in Safe Mode, open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for failed updates or pending installations. Cancel or delete them if needed.

System Restore:

  • If Safe Mode doesn’t help, perform a System Restore:
    • Access the recovery menu by pressing F11 during startup.
    • Choose System Restore and roll back your system to a restore point before the update.

 

 

2. Fix Mouse Pad Screen Blackout

This could be related to sensitivity or hardware settings for your touchpad. Try the following:

Adjust Power Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Power & sleep and ensure your laptop is not set to turn off the display when idle or when certain inputs are detected.

Update Touchpad Drivers:

  • Access Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu.
  • Locate Touchpad (under "Mice and other pointing devices").
  • Right-click it, select Update Driver, and follow the prompts.

Check for Hardware Conflict:

  • Go back to Device Manager and confirm there’s no conflict or warning symbol next to the touchpad device.
  • If issues persist, uninstall the touchpad driver and restart your laptop—it will reinstall the driver automatically.

 

 

3. Prevent Update Issues

To avoid endless restart loops in the future:

  • Manually Download Updates: Use the Microsoft Update Catalog to download updates individually rather than through Windows Update.
  • Disable Automatic Updates Temporarily: If updates frequently cause problems, pause automatic updates under Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
