Dear HP community,
Just a quick one related to RAM speed:
I've received my Dragonfly G4 (5Z549ES#ABD) just a couple of days ago,
32GB of LPDDR5 RAM, 6400Mhz / 6400MT/s is written in the product specifications as well as in in the BIOS information as max. RAM speed. However, BIOS and Windows both say that the RAM is running at 4800Mhz / 4800MT/s.
Since this is my first private business notebook, I am wondering if or how I can change the RAM speed or if the mentioned 4800 is the max. I can get. Drivers, Win11 Pro as well as BIOS is up to date. If you need any additional info please let me know.
Many thanks in advance.
Best,
Schnubbie

The memory is soldered to the board. I found this set of specs which says memory is LPDDR5-4800 which intuitively sounds more plausible than -6400.

But the Service Manual says -6400:

Yes, I also found both information 4800 and 6400.
The thing is that HP and the company I bought it are advertising 6400MT/s.
The difference in real life performance should be very minimal since the used case is a very portable, small and lightweight business notebook.
I took a screenshot from my BIOS, 8x4GB DIMM is confusing, too (sorry I was using German as primary language)

Gluecklich verstehe Ich Deutsch...6400 is maximum but the actual frequency is 4800 it appears. I agree this is confusing to a consumer. Only the most powerful gaming computers would be capable of 6400 memory speed I believe. 4800 is actually very fast.

Hi!
Actually Schnubbie, HP's Marketing does indicate that the 6400 speed is not actually what the system will use. For example on HP's British Shop site for this product, the full specifications list informs us that it's UP TO 6400 MT/s.
You see this a lot by Marketing, and it never means anything good. Battery will last for up to this many days, CPU will boost up to that speed, etc, etc. HP has also pointed out that the system has a 4800 MT/s limit on this product's QuickSpecs PDF.
It's obvious though that Huffer EXPERT Level 18 is right when saying that this is confusing to potential customers. It's sad that even the Notebookcheck review of the Dragonfly G4 provided this information, but didn't really explain it adequately. The CPU-Z screenshots show that HP chose to use 6400 soldered RAM which is then downclocked to 4800MT/s.
It's a bit strange that HP used 6400 LPDDR5 on these systems, to run it at the lower freq........ It would have been much better if they had just used normal DDR5-4800 RAM modules. Hopefully CAMM2 will free us from this, and many other problems having to do with the laptop manufacturers using soldered-on RAM in their newer notebook series.

I totally agree and understand.
I will also take the 5G Module over 6400MT/s, but how deep must a consumer dig to get the correct information.
Just took the screenshots from the reseller (1st pic) as well as the liked product description from the reseller to HP (2nd pic). Sorry for the German again, just copy and pasted it from my mobile.
No single word, telling me UP-TO 6400, simply stated 6400 🙃
The machine is great, the advertising is not worth an additional word. Many thanks for your help 👍
