Hi everyone. I've had the "Reallocated sector counts" issue for a while now, but the issue has now become where I'm having "current pending sector counts" warnings. I've recently had data corruption. I've backed up a lot of my data, but more needs to be done. Take a look at the values. I'm not all that tech savvy, I learn stuff of YouTube, but all that can't be good.

I attempted to swap out an old hard drive from an older HP laptop to a newer HP laptop I've had for 3 years, but it didn't work because the of a drive lock (???). The older hard drive just would not work on the newer HP shell. So I swapped it back to the older laptop. That was more than a year ago, lol. I'm expecting a newer hard drive to arrive today. I already have in my possession a Windows Microsoft retail CD to restore everything as new, but I do not know where to go from here if this HP drive lock.... THING won't let me proceed. Any sort of advice would tremendously. Thanks!

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
Once you get your new hard drive try to install the original windows OS using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool which allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Thank you for posting back.
It looks like the system board needs tattooing.
Tattooing is taking information from a system and applying it discretely to the hardware to avoid licensing issues and Microsoft has a hand in its implementation. If the Hard Drive DMI and Motherboard do not match up, it will not work correctly which is why they state to run the Motherboard tattoo process.
Please contact HP support and get the service options.
