OMEN 17-w252nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just bought an OMEN 17-w-252nr.  It came with a DVD burner.  I have an older notebook from 2012 that has a Blu-Ray burner (HP Model # UJ260).  I wanted to put the older Blu-Ray Burner into my new computer.  Can I do that?  Do I need a driver?  What driver do I need?  Would it be easier to just get some sort of USB adapter to this drive and just use it as an external drive?  Thanks!

Your computer "OMEN by HP Laptop PC Models 17-w001 through 17-w099 and Models 17-w201 through 17w299" has a "Maintenance and Service Guide" at: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05356862

Page 35 describes the available Optical Devices:

● DVD+/-RW Double-Layer SuperMulti 756564-038
● Blu-ray Disc R/RW with SuperMulti 729050-011

and it shows that the device has the "standard" SATA connectors for "data" and for "power".

See: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Panasonic-UJ-260-compatibility...

for a similar question about your UJ260.

> I wanted to put the older Blu-Ray Burner into my new computer.  Can I do that?

Yes, it seems that the UJ260 also has the "standard" connectors for "data" and for "power".

> Do I need a driver?   What driver do I need?

No. Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10 contains the necessary device-drivers for SATA devices.

> Would it be easier to just get some sort of USB adapter to this drive and just use it as an external drive?

Many of those adapters use "Plug-And-Play" to identify themselves as "disk-drives", not as a "CD/DVD" optical device.

So, Windows may not recognize it for what it really is.
