Hi guys.
I've created an account here to ask a few questions regarding my HP laptop. The device has some age and I only just recently decided to resurrect an old laptop by installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. My questions are as follow:
Which driver should I install for these devices?
SM Bus Controller
Its hardware IDs are:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C22&SUBSYS_1656103C&REV_05
Unknown device
Its hardware IDs are:
ACPI\HPQ0004
Can you let me know which drivers are going to be best for the above devices?
Also my display adapters section show 2 different devices:
Standard VGA Graphics Adapter
Hardware IDs: PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6760&SUBSYS_1656103C&REV_00
Standard VGA Graphics Adapter
Hardware IDs: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0116&SUBSYS_1656103C&REV_09
When I looked into drivers for the graphics adapters, I have found out that one of the devices is an AMD and the other one is Intel. I've installed AMD's recommended drivers but it rendered my laptop unusable. Can you recommend a course of action for this?
My hardware specs for reference:
- HP Pavilion dv6-6b51ea
- Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
- Memory: 6144MB RAM
- BIOS: InsydeH2O Version 03.60.48F.02
- Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_ldr.190418-1735)

Hi:
You need these drivers for the devices you listed...
SMBus: Install this driver first and restart the PC.
This package contains the Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver for supported notebook models and operating systems. This utility enables the operating system to show the correct name for the installed Intel hardware in the Microsoft Windows Device Manager.
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55095.exe
ACPI\HPQ0004:
This will install HP 3D DriveGuard, which provides protection for a notebook computer's internal disk drive if the computer is accidentally dropped or abruptly hits another object. This package is available on supported notebooks with supported operating systems.
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp57001-57500/sp57232.exe
Your notebook has the AMD/Intel switchable graphics, which is why you are seeing two graphics adapters listed there.
This one graphics driver installs both of those devices. Restart the PC after installing the driver.
This package provides the AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver and Catalyst Control Center for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. For notebooks with switchable graphics modes, this package includes drivers for both graphics processing units (GPUs). Switchable graphics enable users to switch between a power-saving graphics mode (normally used under battery power) and a high-performance graphics mode. If high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) video output is supported, this package also installs the HDMI Audio Driver.

Thank you for your reply.
I have managed to successfully install the SM Bus Driver and the HP 3D Guard. They both work fine.
However I have installed the AMD graphics driver and the result is worrying. After restarting the PC, it either gets stuck (freezes) on the Windows logo (loading screen) or displays a rapid blue screen (one I can't even begin reading) and restarts. I have made a restore point before installing the driver which I used to restore the PC back to working condition. Any thoughts on that?

You're very welcome.
The problem you are having indicates that the AMD GPU has become damaged by over heating over the course of time, and will not accept the driver anymore.
No fix other than to replace the motherboard with a new one, and I wouldn't recommend putting that kind of money to repair it in such an old notebook.
Unfortunately it is time to retire it.

Thought that would be the case. Can I disable the AMD adapter from the device manager and just use the Intel one then? If so could I just update the Intel adapter with newest drivers? I'd like to use that laptop for some web browsing/office stuff because it works fine, just the drivers needing updated.

Unfortunately, you can't disable the AMD GPU in the device manager or BIOS to fix the problem.
You should be able to install the Intel graphics adapter using the Intel driver on the support page, but the graphics will still not work properly.

You need both adapters to be working in order to adjust the screen brightness, put the PC to sleep, etc.
