I am experiencing HDD failure. Specifically the DST short check fail.  RUVA6X-98VA81-XD7W3G-60SN03 I was wondering if anyone's found a fix for this without getting a new drive? I have already checked the connections inside which seem to be fine.  All the solutions I have found so far just say to replace the broken drive and try to salvage the data.  This is acceptable but the problem for me is then recovering Windows 10 as I have only the one PC.  Is there any places that I can get Win10 OS recovery files without spending too much.  My warranty is expired so I will be paying for everything out of pocket, after the new drive and the USB to SATA cable I can't afford to buy a new Windows OS too. I do have an old HDD from my last PC but I think it's a Win7 OS. Would it be possible to make a Win10 OS recovery disc with another OS version?

Hi:

I don't know of any way to fix the drive.  If you can't get into Windows, then the drive needs to be replaced.

You will have to find a friend or relative that has a Windows PC running W7 x64 or newer on it to create the bootable recovery drive.

You do not need to buy a new copy of W10.

Your PC should be supported by the HP cloud recovery tool which you can use to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your PC.

You will need to have access to another Windows PC running W7 64 bit or newer on it to use the cloud recovery tool.

Here is an info link for how to use the cloud recovery tool...

You can see if your PC is supported by the tool at the link below...
