I want to dual boot two operating systems. I have an SSD installed from which I boot my current operating. Can I install a second storage device -- HDD, which I removed and replaced with the SSD -- and have them both occupy the laptop, and simply choose which operating system to boot from at my choosing? If I have these two mediums installed at the same time will they try to communicate with the system, and therefore cause a problem? Do I, or the system have to manage this setup if it is at all possible?

If you are trying to dual boot WIndows 10 and Linux, make sure your second SSD partition table is gpt too and install Linux there.
Leave BIOS in Secure Boot mode. During installation, select both SSDs as target storage, as Linux would update existing EFI partition in the first SSD and mount it as /boot/efi.
After Linux is installed, go into BIOS setting, change the boot order in OS Boot Manager to favour Linux (grub2).
If there is no option to select OS in "OS Boot Manager" (older BIOS), then you have to hit escape everytime during startup and use F9 to select Linux to boot. Changing boot order with efibootmgr will have no effect.
Hope this helps.
