Dual Storage Config

I have read this thread as it is the only available thread with information to go off of for my question.

After viewing this thread it is determined that the laptop will indeed take an m.2 ssd form factor 2280. However the manual linked in the thread states that 512GB is the max in a NVMe drive and 256GB max in PCIe Sata 3. I have no need for an NVMe drive, I would like to go with the cheaper Sata 3 drive. However under the manuals section for Dual Storage Configuration, it seems to show that the max storage for Sata 3 is only 128GB when running a dual storage setup. I can find a Samsung 850 EVO 250GB m.2 SSD that I would be willing to buy, but I'm skeptical it will work in a Dual Storage Setup?

The Service Manual just catalogs the various configurations offered by HP from the factory it does not define maximum capacities of the storage disk. So yes you can install the 250 gig SATA 3 M.2 2280 disk. Just observing however that the NVME is about 4 or 5 times as fast and usually only a little more expensive. SATA M.2 good; NVME M.2 is fantastic.
