HP Spectre x360 Convertible 15-ch0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just had a question about my HP Spectre x360 laptop. So from looking at the frame of laptop, i have two type C ports, one with a thunderbolt identification, and also a HDMI. i always use HDMI to connect to my monitor, but i am planing on building work/study desk. it is a HP Spectre x360 Convertible 15-ch0xx, and the product number is 2LV24UA#ABA. i was wondering if i would be able to connect it to 2 maybe even 3 displays through thunderbolt? and if both Type C ports are actully thunderbolts?

Thanks!

According to specs only one USB-C port is Thunderbolt but the other has an Alt-DP signal so for your purposes is just as good.

Your best bet for running 3 external monitors is to get a Thunderbolt docking station:

https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Charging-Specific-Thunderbolt-DisplayPort/dp/B0779K9DG2/ref=sr_1_4?k...

This would give 3 separate external displays, and will charge the laptop all at the same time by plugging a single cable into the laptop Thunderbolt port.

If you want to go cheap you could plug an HDMI montor into the HDMI port on the laptop and then get a USB-C to DP single adapter for each of the USB-C ports and have 3 monitors that way and then a USB hub for mouse and keyboard, etc., but most people don't want to have to connect and disconnect 3 or more connections to dock and undock.

hey!, so i took your advice and purchased the thunderbolt dock you recomended. best money i ever spent for my laptop. just 1 thunderbolt to my laptop and i can do everything i want at my desk. but i had one question. i was wondering if it is bad to leave it plugged in when i am not using it. im only taking two classses right now durring the summer, so from thursday through monday it has more downtime than usual. since the dock can do everything and charge my laptop at the same time, is it bad to leave it connected for long periods of time?

No that is an urban myth. I have an HP laptop connected to a dock at my office its on 24/7/365 plugged in. The battery is 4 + years old and still fine.
