Can I replace the intel core i7 q720 @ 1.60 Ghz with an intel core i7 3610QM @ 2.3 Ghz in my Hp dv7-4197cl 17.3" notebook pc?

Hi:

 

You can only install one of the supported 1st gen core processors listed in the service manual for your notebook.

 

No Intel 2nd or 3rd gen core processor will work in a notebook with a mobile intel series 5 chipset.

Here is the link to the service manual for your notebook's model series.

 

The supported processors can be found in chapter 1.

 

Since your notebook has the Intel HM55 Express Chipset, the best processor you can install is the Intel Core i7-840QM.
