HP Zbook Fury 16 G10 Mobile Workshop
Microsoft Windows 11

We intend to purchase a HP Zbook Fury 16 G10 Mobile Workshop. As I am used to work on my desktop Z4 G4 with 128 GB ECC RAM, we would like to opt for the same kind of memory in the laptop. The quantity of RAM seems not a problem, thus 4 x 32 GB seems to be ok. But why is nowhere a sign of choice for ECC RAM?

Is that a new politic from HP? No ECC RAM available anymore?

Thanks for advice and opinions.

I checked the URL but wonder, because the processors are all "Core" systems. Not being an expert, I was convinced that ECC RAM only works really with Xeon processors. So, maybe the memory will work, but without ECC functionality?

Please explain, I am really interested.

WM790 chipset supports ECC:

High end Intel Core CPUs 12th gen and later can support ECC, too. So I also thought only Xeons can support ECC and it ain't necessarily so. There is full ECC (error correcting) support, too.

I got my Fury 16 G10 in early December 2023.

While ordering, I noticed that when I changed to the i9-13950HX CPU, the RAM automatically changed to ECC.

So yes, the system supports ECC with my CPU.

Ok Huffer,

I found this on the document url:

Maximum

128 GB DDR5-4800 ECC SODIMM

128 GB DDR5-5600 non-ECC SODIMM

As in Germany,  128 GB DDR5-5600 non-ECC SODIMM is easy to purchase, I wonder why HP does not offer these.

My guess is that perhaps the BIOS can't handle both the faster memory speed and error correction. ECC RAM does tend to slow the system down by just a bit but if you are running a heavy traffic server or doing high value content creation work ECC is highly preferable for obvious reasons

That would be strange, because in my HP Z4G4 with these values are no problems at all.
