Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My fingerprint reader stops working, and disappears from the Device Manager.  Hard restarts and other solutions don't work.

I have to go to the HP drivers page for my ProBook and download the driver from the list of drivers for this laptop.

Once I restart, the fingerprint reader works without me having to record new fingerprint/biometrics.

However, this scenario repeats every couple of weeks approximately, and I have to reinstall the drivers to get the fingerprint reader working again.

Could you please find out why this is happening?  It is rather annoying having to reinstall the driver so often.
Are others having the same problem?  If so, please comment below, or report this to HP so that they know it is not an isolated problem.

Hi @Toriella

Use this application and see which drivers to update, especially if the BIOS needs to be updated.

Thank you for the reply / possible solution.

As you recommended I ran HP Image Assist.

The only files it wanted to update or install were:

- HP Smart Health; and,

- HP Hotkey Support - UWP

I'm not sure if either of these will fix my problem, but I will continue to monitor (for a little while) whether I continue to have problems with the fingerprint sensor driver disappearing following the installation of this driver and this software.

I'm sorry, this wasn't the solution after all.  This evening my fingerprint driver disappeared from the device manager again.  I will go to the HP driver page for my laptop model and download it again.  Thank you for trying to help.
