Microsoft Windows 11

I recently got a ELITEBOOK 850 G7 (11th gen chip) and swapped out the NVME drive for a KINGSTON 1TB NVME drive which supports up to a maximum speed of 7000MBps read rates.  Unfortunately, I am only getting half the speed.  Does the system support NVME 4 drives or 3 only?  A chat with the online help on WhatsApp proved useless as they don't seem to be knowledgeable.  They told me it was half the speed because of shared resources (guess they are talking about PCIE lanes etc which they did not elaborate). From what I know it should show me the full 7000 speeds ...

Further check on the specs it shows all NVME 3 drives to upgrade and no mention of the next gen.

Does anybody have any information about this area?  Would greatly appreciate the input.

Cheers!

Hi:

What model 11th gen core processor does your notebook have?

Most of the notebooks that come with 11th gen core processors only have Gen 3 SSD slots even though some of the processors themselves are PCIe Gen 4.

You can look up the processor specs on the intel site and find the answer you are looking for.

For example, take the Intel® Core™ i5-1135G7 processor:

Intel Core i51135G7 Processor 8M Cache up to 4.20 GHz Product Specifications

The processor is PCIe Gen 4, but the chipset/PCH PCIe revision is only Gen 3.

BTW, the parts list HP has for your notebook's product number indicates it comes with an Intel 10th gen core processor.
