The fan inside my laptop seems to be working constantly without a stop. How can I make it stop? It's very disturbing when I work.

Hi @ssrisawas,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Excessive fan noise on a laptop like the HP ENVY x360 can be caused by various factors, including dust accumulation, high CPU usage, or software issues. Here are some steps you can take to try and fix the loud fan noise.

  • Clean the Laptop: Dust and debris can accumulate inside the laptop over time, causing the fans to work harder. Turn off the laptop, unplug it, and use compressed air to blow out any dust from the vents and fan. Be gentle to avoid damaging any internal components.
  • Check for Background Processes: Sometimes, background processes or applications can cause the CPU to work harder than necessary, leading to increased fan noise. Open the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check for any processes that are using a significant amount of CPU. You can end these tasks to reduce CPU usage.
  • Update Drivers: Outdated or corrupted drivers can sometimes lead to fan issues. Make sure all your drivers, especially the graphics and chipset drivers, are up to date. You can usually find these on the HP website or by using Windows Update.
  • Adjust Power Settings: Windows has power plans that control how the system uses resources. Go to Control Panel > Power Options and select a power plan that balances performance and power savings. You can also customize the advanced power settings to control when the fans should turn on or off.
  • BIOS Update: Check if there's a BIOS update available for your laptop on the HP website. Sometimes, BIOS updates include improvements for fan control and thermal management.
  • Limit Background Processes: Reduce the number of startup programs and background applications that run when your computer starts. This can help lower CPU usage and, in turn, reduce fan noise.
  • Elevate the Laptop: Placing the laptop on a cooling pad or elevating it slightly can improve airflow and help keep the laptop cooler, potentially reducing fan noise.
  • Check for Malware: Malware or viruses can cause increased CPU usage, leading to loud fan noise. Run a full system scan with a reliable antivirus program to check for malware.
  • Reset or Reinstall Windows: If none of the above steps work, consider resetting or reinstalling Windows. Sometimes, software corruption can lead to fan issues, and a fresh installation can resolve the problem.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
