ENVY dv7-7255dx
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hi,
I've got ENVY dv7-7255dx laptop from 2012 and I just wanted to know:
- will it handle 16GB RAM? How fast RAM can I use
- I want to add SSD and make it primary drive (and still keep current one for data) - will 240GB SSD (e.g. GoodRam Iridium Pro 240GB (SSDPR-IRIDPRO-240) be compatible?
- can you please send me name or example model of SATA cable compatible with my laptop and mentioned above drive? It looks as it requires round cable - correct?
- is drive mounting cage specific or can I buy any?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Regards,

Gregory Malinowski

We do not see that brand of SSD over here in the US but as it is a 2.5 inch wide 7 mm thick SATA SSD it is virtually certain to work.

Yes you can install 16 gigs of RAM.

Service Manual

DDR3-1600-MHz dual channel support Supports up to 16384-MB system RAM

Memory modules (2, PC3, 12800, 1600-MHz): 8-GB memory module 670034-001

https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-PC3-12800-Notebooks-KTH-X3C-8G/dp/B0089MTP0W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=...

This is DDR3-1600 1.5 volt memory. The Kingston linked above will work.

Here is a link to the SATA cable and caddy for your laptop to use in the second bay:

https://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_5&products_id=579&zenid=4600...

These are specific items and need to be designed for your specific model as there are mounting flanges and attachment  points that have to engage to hold the drive from moving inside the laptop.

I sense you are not in the US. If you have trouble finding any of this let us know but all can likely be found on eBay in Europe.
