Hello dear HP family,
I'm looking for help on upgrading my RAM memory on my laptom.
What is the Max RAM size (single slot) upgrade for my ENVY x360 15-bp105nn S/N#: [Personal Information Removed]
I have checked in my CMD and it says 32GB, but on Crucial's page it says 12GB, so I'm kinda confused.
Thank you so much!

The manual just lists 4 and 8gb can be installed. Possibly that is only the memory that was tested during design. I found an article over at iFixit for a similar model. I did not see any memory in the pictures so I asked the author about the memory. It is suspicious that the memory is not shown on the top of the motherboard. I assume you added that additional stick of 4gb. I have never had a problem returning memory that did not work, just verify the vendor will allow a return.

Page 29 of the users manual list the type of memory that your system was tested with
There might be a problem looking up the HP part number. Sometimes it is better find what is in the laptop.
Using the windows command prompt, please run the following command and report back what it reveals
wmic memorychip get devicelocator, capacity, speed, MemoryType, formfactor, partnumber, manufacturer |
for example
Usually the part number shown by WMIC can be found at HP store or eBay

Hi, @MK3D
No wonder you're confused.
I'm confused too.
You have an interesting model with a very unusual feature.
Your notebook has 4 GB of onboard memory that cannot be removed or upgraded and it has one memory slot where you can remove and replace the memory.
Looking at chapter 1 of the service manual, HP indicates the amount of memory you can install in the single slot depends on the graphics adapter your notebook has.
According to the manual, notebooks that come with the Nvidia graphics adapter can support 8 GB of memory in the memory slot.
Notebooks that only come with the Intel graphics adapter can support a 16 GB memory chip in the slot.
However, since you have run the memory specs using the command prompt and get 32 GB, that leads me to believe that even though the notebook has the Nvidia GPU, the memory slot will indeed support 1 x 16 GB of DDR4-2666 MHz memory.
So, if you want to try a 16 GB memory chip, that has a very good chance of working.
For a DDR4-2666 MHz memory chip, you want 1Rx8, CL19 and for a DDR4-3200 MHz memory chip, you want 1Rx8, CL22.

Dear BeemerBiker, thank you so much on your reply and your help.
Here's the screenshot of what I got back in CMD.
Is this helpful for you, to identify the max size of the RAM I can install in my laptop?
Much thank's!

Dear Paul_Tikkanen, thank you so much for taking so much time to answer my question. I really appreciate all your help.
Looking at the user manual, I see it's also very confusing 😄 and seems like there's no straight forward answers on my question 😄
Yes, you were right, my laptop is equipped with a NVidia GeForce MX150 graphic card, and I suppose that's the reason why there's only one RAM slot on my motherboard.
Since my CMD says the max supported memory is up to 32GB, I suppose I can go with a DDR4-3200 MHz 16GB 1Rx8, CL22 and give it a try.
Is there any possible harm I can cause to my laptop by installing a memory that's larger than supported?
Would I notice any symptoms or strange behavior of my laptop by doing that?
Thank you so much!
Appreciate your time and effort.

You're very welcome.
If you install a 16 GB memory chip, one of two things will probably happen.
it will work fine, or the notebook will not boot up with it installed.
You shouldn't damage anything by installing the 16 GB chip.

Tnx for the reply BeemerBiker,
seems like this link covers the topic good enough:
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/RAM-upgrade-options-for-HP-ENV...
The 4GB slot is soldered on the motherboard (as one of the slots) and the other is removable.
I will go for the 16GB purchase and swap it with the current 8GB, and hope for the best 😄
But I have to admit that this was an interesting topic to search for and discover,,,,as HP made it so confusing and rare to find the solution, lol 😄 Thank you so much for all your time! Appreciate it!
