HP EliteBook 830 G6 Notebook PC

Hello HP Community,

I have an HP EliteBook 830 G6 laptop, and I’m planning to upgrade its memory. I recently purchased a HIKSEMI HIKER DDR4 16GB 3200MHz SODIMM RAM module (as shown in the attached photo).

Before installing it, I’d like to confirm whether this RAM is compatible with my laptop model.
Currently, my laptop’s RAM speed is 2400 MT/s, and I understand that the EliteBook 830 G6 officially supports up to DDR4-2666MHz. Will the 3200MHz module still work properly (even if it runs at a lower speed)?

Here are the RAM details:

  • Brand: HIKSEMI

  • Model: HIKER DDR4

  • Capacity: 16GB

  • Speed: 3200MHz

  • Type: DDR4 SODIMM

  • Made in China

Thank you for your help and confirmation!

Best regards,

Hello Sakariye999.

The MANUAL for this system, on page 1, informs us that maximum system memory is 32GBs and will run at the speed of 2133 if a dual-core Intel is installed or 2400 for a quad-core. 2666 is therefore out of the question. I have to assume your Elitebook has the quad core since you mention it already runs at 2400. Generally speaking 3200 16GB modules should work and just run at the lower frequency. However, HP laptops are very picky about the memory they use, and often refuse to work with modules of "exotic" brands due to the quality of the chips on the RAM or the chip organization. This is why most of us choose RAM from one of the major manufacturers who give some kind of guarantee of compatibility with HP systems.

Crucial and Kingston, on their pages for this product, offer compatible modules of up to 16GBs. On the other hand, the Munich-based CompuRAM, manufacturer and seller of memory modules also mentions that 2x32GB kits are supported on this Elitebook and sells one guaranteed to work. Although not mentioned in the manual, users have discovered that HP's Intel 6th gen and up DDR4 systems usually accept 32GB modules. For example Amazon sold a 850G6 and a 840G6 with aftermarket upgrades of 64GB RAM,  and so did Newegg (850G6). For the 830G6, there is this user's report on the HP community that an upgrade with two 32GB Mushkin modules was a success: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Q-A-Max-RAM-SSD-for-HP-Elitebo....

So, 16GB and 32GB modules of 2400 to 3200 speed should be compatible with your Elitebook. The chip organization could be a problem though. Your HIKSEMI "HSC416532Z1" RAM doesn't really publish any info on the subject. If this is 1Rx8 memory, there could be compatibility issues. From the pic you've uploaded it seems to be dual-rank 2Rx8, but this is just an educated guess. It's also worth mentioning that we've seen memory from the lesser known brands not work properly, even though it meets all the necessary criteria....

I hope you’re doing well.
I would like to know if the RAM shown in the attached image (HIKSEMI DDR4 16GB 3200MHz SODIMM) is fully compatible with the HP EliteBook 830 G6.

My plan is to install two pieces (2 × 16GB) for a total of 32GB RAM.

Could you please confirm:

  1. Is this specific DDR4 16GB 3200MHz SODIMM module supported by the EliteBook 830 G6?

  2. Can the laptop run stable with 32GB using two 16GB sticks?

  3. Will the RAM automatically downclock to the supported speed if needed?

Thank you very much for your help!TzortzisGphoto_5864182449011624726_y.jpg
