HP EliteBook 840 G7 Notebook PC IDS Base Model

I have a HP EliteBook 840 G7 running Windows 11 64-bit.

I would like to know if it is possible to connect to an external monitor via one of the two USB-C ports, is the laptop capable of video signal transmission through them?

I have attempted this with a ViewSonic VP2468A (which states it has a USB 3.2 type C up stream DisplayPort alt mode), but can't get it to display my laptop, nor can I get my laptop to detect an external monitor.

Is it possible that a different type of USB-C cable is required to allow video transmission?

I appreciate any help offered.

There are different types of USB type-C cables. What you need is a thunderbolt 3 or 4 cable.

You need bandwidth on the order of 40 Gbps.

You can purchase a Thunderbolt cable at Amazon.co.uk

I suggest a high quality cable by a manufacturer such as Belkin or Anker.

To make to connection to the display are you using the Thunderbolt capable output port on the laptop?

Have you entered the ViewSonic display's Input Select menu to choose either auto detect or Type C?

while connected to the display and logged into Windows,  have you tried the Windows key + P to select the output?

Thank you for your help.

Yes, according to the User Guide both USB-C are Thunderbolt ports capable of DisplayPort output, this is what I have used to connect the laptop.

Yes, I have changed the input source on the monitor to the USB-C input when connected to the laptop.

Yes, I did also as you suggested to change the output in Windows.

However, Windows doesn't even detect an external monitor in Settings > Display > Multiple displays (Windows 11).

Are there different types of USB-C cables, and only some will support display?

Thank you very much for your help. I didn't realise there were different USB-C cables. Hopefully this will resolve the problem.
