I currently have HP Elitebook 830 G8 that come with SIM Slot for cellular connectivity.

With our recent upgrade on communication to 5G, I was wondering if there's an upgrade path for my laptop from 4G to 5G capability? As I wouldn't want to buy a new laptop just for the sake of 5G connection only, and this laptop is working great for me.

There is no upgrade path for an installed 4G transceiver in a laptop with cellular service capability  to 5G.

It is essentially as if you asked the same question about a mobile phone.

If you wanted 5G service for a mobile phone not capable of it, you would have to replace the phone with one that has 5G capability.

Chapter 3, page 20 of the service manual indicates that there is a WWAN adapter with 5G support:

Is the part interchangeable? I mean I just need to swap my current network card to this L83053-001 part only? No other changes required? Like additional antenna or something else? It's just plug and play with some software update that support this 5g network cellular?

You should be able to just uninstall the old WWAN adapter and driver in the device manager, swap out the card and install the driver for it. but I suggest that you contact HP customer service to confirm.

Apparently, HP has a new card that replaced that part number for the card I posted, M74018-001, and either part number is very expensive.
