Microsoft Windows 11

HI

I have a lab where the PCs have been updated to Elitedesk G9, but the E201 monitors were kept. Everything seemed fine, the PCs were setup and worked fine with the monitors, till several days later when MS update deployed a HP monitor update and suddenly the monitors were no longer recognised by the PCs. Other monitors worked fine, but not the E201s. The E201s however, still worked on other PCs.

I have tried multiple solutions, and the only thing that seemed to work was to swap with an older monitor (HP 1901wg) and then swap back. This seemed to clear the issue, but coming back to the lab after the weekend 4 of the 10 monitors have reverted again.

Anyone got any ideas?

@AndyP1965, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP EliteDisplay E201 20-inch LED Backlit Monitor.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

It seems that the issue you are experiencing could be related to a driver update for the HP E201 monitors that was deployed during the Microsoft update. Sometimes, updates can introduce compatibility issues, especially if the driver update does not align well with the hardware. Here are a few steps you can consider to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

  1. Roll Back the Monitor Driver:

    • You can try rolling back the monitor driver to its previous version to see if it resolves the recognition issue.
    • Go to Device Manager > Monitors.
    • Select the HP E201 monitor, right-click it, and choose Properties.
    • Go to the Driver tab and select Roll Back Driver if the option is available.
  2. Update the Graphics Driver:

    • Ensure that your PC’s graphics driver is up to date, as sometimes newer versions can fix compatibility issues introduced by monitor driver updates.
    • Visit the HP support website for the specific EliteDesk G9 model, or the graphics card manufacturer's website, to download and install the latest graphics driver.
  3. Test with a Standard Display Driver:

    • You can try using a basic display driver as a test method to see if the issue is indeed with the updated monitor driver.
    • In the Device Manager, go to Monitors, right-click on the HP E201, and select Update Driver.
    • Choose Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
    • Select Generic PnP Monitor and see if this resolves the issue.
  4. Remove and Reinstall the Monitor:

    • Another approach might be to uninstall the monitor from the system and then perform a hardware scan to have Windows try and detect it again.
    • In Device Manager, right-click on the HP E201 and select Uninstall device.
    • Restart your computer and allow Windows to reinstall the monitor driver automatically.
  5. Check for Windows Updates or HP Support Assistant Updates:

    • Ensure the system is completely up to date with Windows updates and HP Support Assistant updates, as sometimes additional updates can resolve unforeseen compatibility issues.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!
