Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

When i use the USB C port on my Elitbook 745 G3 and the HP docking station G5 then i get the error message that screen connection has limied access. The USB C DOCK G5 is visible in the device management of windows.

But when I use the same laptop on my HP E243d docking screen then everything is working.

The USB C port on the laptop is a standard Basic type USB-C port. And not with Display port integrated.

But why is it working on my docking screen ? And why don´t it work on my G5 dock ?

I am really confused and I seek some god explanations and maybe even a fix to used the laptop on the G5 docking station 😉

I think I have found the problem here and I will try to explain as good as possible.

The HP USB C Dock comes in different versions :

The version that do not work in my set up :

HSN-IX02

HP USB-C Dock G5

P/N L61609-001

The version that do work in my set up:

HSN-IX02

HP USB-C/A Universal Dock G2

P/N L61608-001

What I found is that the usb-c G5 dock is a passthrough dock, which means the OS is supposed to find all its components and load appropriate drivers. This dock does NOT have DisplayLink hardware, nor it can use that driver.

The HP usb-c universal g2 dock, which DOES use a displaylink chip and will use the displaylink driver.

So my conclution and workaround for this is to purchase the older version 🙂

I hope this is helpfull for others - as I have been using a lot of time on this topic 🙂

Why ? The specs of your computer is

              https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04818135#AbT2

Ut ONLY has (1) USB basic type-C wj=hich is a HOPELESS USB-C port which is NOT compatible with the HB USB-C G5. Not all USB-C ports are the same .

@Banhien

Thank you very much for your swift reply 🙂 I understand that this USB C port is hopeless and accept it.

But why can I use the USB C on my Display with integrated docking staion and it works here ? I can not get into my mind that it works in a display with integrated dock but not on the G5 dock....... In my world it should work in both cases or don´t work in both cases. It allso tells me that the USB C port has the video signal otherwise It would not work in the display with dock intergrated.

Best regards

/Peter

As I said Not all USB-C ports are the same . What is your other dock ? It may have built in Displaylink certified chip.
