Hi all,
I have a brand new Elitebook 745 G4 (AMD Processor) and the fan is running without interruption (medium speed I would say).
I have already updated the BIOS to the latest available version, disabled the FAN option in the BIOS, adapted the Power-Settings in W10 to "passive" ....but the fan simply does not stop.
It is even running when I start the PC and keep the BIOS Boot-Menu open for 1 hour. Dust cannot be an issue as the PC is brand new. ...... my previous Eliteboot (745 G2) was silent like a charm.
What to do?
The noise is not acceptable and in case it cannot be fixed, I have to give it back.
Appreciate your feedback.

The fact that the fan can be heard is a good thing. Your laptop needs it working to keep the temperature at an acceptable level. If anything, I would be worried if it weren't working at all or if it were barely audible as that would put a huge strain on your CPU and decrease the lifespan of the laptop considerably.
If it's being loud and making rattling noises, it could be that the bearings are bad or the fan has not been seated properly.

Hi AlexandruN,
thanks for the feedback.
If it would make "rattling noises" I would have even not asked for help as this is then a DOA and I would have returned it back immediately.
Summarizing - you have no clue either and cannot help me 😞
Anyways thanks for coming back.
Any other ideas?

It is perfectly normal for the fan to be running constantly.
If the noise bothers you, I could recommend returning this product and purchasing one without a fan. Perhaps an Envy X2 or stream notebook depending on your needs.

The Elitebook 745 G2 (which I had before) also has a fan and was silent all the time.
And yes, the fan was/is working fine on my 745 G2. In summer it sometimes started to run..... and also when I was booting it up, the fan shortly start to run for selftesting or so....
Any other ideas from anyone how to get the fan problem fixed on my 745 G4?

I just recieved the same notebook at work. Yes I had the g2 also previously. I have the AMD a12 processor. This is my answer:
Fan runs almost all the time at medium to high speed and is VERY loud.
Fan is defected. Most likely a cheap chinese manufacturer with impropper quality checks. HP should replace the fan unit and possibly check that the heat sink is properly attached. A properly balanced fan should not be noisy, ESPECIALLY in a laptop.

I have the exact same configuration and the exact same problem. Got a brand new corporate laptop a week ago and from the moment a logged in the fan got into gear and won't stop spinning... at all. Checked temperature with the CrystalDiskInfo app. The temp reading was coloured in orange showing 51°C, which means the laptop is overheating, and it happens even when I'm not running any apps. The CPU and RAM utilization hovers at and above 50% on background processes alone. In 30-40 min. performance begins to deteriorate and latency becomes borderline unbearable. It's a corporate image and I can't change much OS wise but I had that same image on an EB 840 with Intel and I could hear a pin drop, no overheating or performance issues.

Hello, just FYI that I've removed the CPU fan/heatsink assembly, cleaned the processor and put new Arctic MX-4 thermal compound on. I think it has helped with system stability under load but has not helped with the fan. My CrystalDiskInfo temperature shows 35C though I hadn't looked at this number before. it's the disk temperature, not the CPU, but it is an M.2 SSD and it is closeby sort of. I can't find a program that will show me the CPU temp. HWMonitor shows me the GPU temp, and that is 57C.
I also just installed the latest BIOS 1.24 from September 2018. No change. I am tempted to just unplug the CPU fan, but obviously that is sarcasm and that wouldn't be good.
