Hello, I'm having issues with my Fingerprint Device on my 7-month-old Elitebook 840 G1.

I've installed the drivers for the Fingerprint Device.

Please help!

@Egamz

This is an old machine actually, must be 5 year old by now and Fingerprint reader is an OPTION. Now my question is: are you sure your machine has fingerprint reader or just a small window but NO reader underneath.

If you wish to install the finger print sensor you can buy

Fingerprint reader board (includes cable, bracket, and insulator) part # 730956-001

Regards.

I have the same problem. But my Elitebook 850 G1

- is some years old (maybe 4 or 5 years, for more exact informations must look in the papers at the bureau)

- worked nice with the fingerprint sensor to authenticate each day, until I did the Win10 Pro /64bit functions update 1903 last week

There is no error information or log about that, even no information about that fact inside the HP support assistent - It is, as the fingerprint sensor wasn't there anytime! Theres now only the option for password or pin login at the login screen!

But the HP support assistent is working! Has alerted and installed a BIOS update and a Network adapter update some days AFTER the some days after that the fingprint is missing / 1903 was installed. So it cant be the reason for the missing, it was not there BEFORE the BIOS and NC update (and still away after that)

1903 does no other problems at the elitebook until today, Is working in the enterprise LAN, standalone and in all VPNs as good as before the 1903 update. Also all applications and other hardware at the computer are working nice, as can be seen after a week.

But the fingerprint sensor DEFINITLY stopped his work (and existence?) with Windows 1903-Update!

Hope, the fingerprint sensor will be available and working with some HP (or MS?) update soon.

Greetings, GW (CEO of a german IT enterprise / chief database developer)

Yes, I'm having the same problem, but my fingerprint reader NEVER worked. Also, I forgot to mention that I have a refurbished laptop and that might be the case, also I'm sorry for not being active.

Yeah, it might be that it LOOKS like a fingerprint reader, just there's no reader under it, Also it could not be the case, I went on Windows Device Manager and it says that it recognizes a fingerprint reader. I think the fingerprint reader is a black tab on the bottom right of the laptop. I never knew it was a fingerprint reader, but its the only thing that looks like a fingerprint reader. What could it be?

I've the same isse:

I have buy a used 840 G1 and a brandnew W10 Pro Verion on it.

After install some driver from the HP Homepage ( the intel driver coundn't updated, because there a newer on form Mircosoft, the Bios was updated, the driver for the hotkeys are implementet ... But I could not see in the device Manager the biometric sensor. The bios give also no option. Also I have try to install the driver for the Synaptics 7552 (Is this device in the Elitebook?)

I've disassemble the keyboard.  There is a flatband cable  connected with a Label "MB" on it. This cable should be coming from the fingerpront sensor. I have open, reject and install the cable once agin: No change, no sensor is visible.

Is there a dependency with some bios settings? (Maybe USB?)

I've try also HP one pass (or simular programm) This programm changed a lot of in the bios. So I've uninstalled and after time, I recieved the access to the bios back ... 😞 But also no luck with the sensor

There is the same problem again now with MS Windows function update 1909 (did it yesterday): No option for fingerprint login any longer, after first reboot with fresh installed functions update.

But there is a simple solution (the same as with the same problem after function uptate 1903):

(1) Reboot the EliteBook and press Esc to start the BIOS Setup

(2) Select the EXTENDED section of the main navigation on top, then there (german:) "Gerätekonfiguration" (engl: "Device configuration"?)

(3) There is a list with a record for the fingerprint sensor and a checkbox in front of it (at mine notebook: selected). Unselect it + save, then select it again and again save it

(4) leave the extended section and answer "yes" (or was it "save"?) at the upcoming save question.

- And voila! It works as before! 🙂

After the problem with 1903 update in spring, I had to train my fingers again. Now after 1909 it works immediatly.

Hope that helps!

...and I think, it's very poor, that HP doesn't find and post such a simple solution here in her own forum! Or are there no engineers any longer but all are only sales persons now??!

Greetings from germany and all have a nice christmas time next weeks!
