Hello All
Problem was first noticed when Windows Hello started failing on login with "Can't start camera" message. I checked the device manager only to find that there was nothing listed under Imaging Devices. I booted the device into diagnostic mode and chose Component Test and, I couldn't find a component that equated to a camera of any nature. It should have shown up as "Web camera" in the list of components. I've gone so far as to re-seat the camera cable to the mainboard. That had no effect.

Question(s):
Does anyone know if it's common that both HD IR and HD Cameras to fail simultaneously (if they going to fail at all)? The cameras appear as all one component in the service manual.
In the opinion of all those of you that might answer, is the problem more likely the camera component or the mainboard?

Thanks for you answers/opinions in advance.

Hello @GaryDG,

Not sure if this will be available on your device but I've been looking through some BIOS simulators so please check if this works:

  1. Turn off the laptop
  2. Press the power button and immediately start repeatedly pressing F10
  3. Navigate to Advanced
  4. Select Build-In Device Options
  5. Enable the Integrated Camera option

Let me know how it goes.

Kind regards,

Eddy

Hi @EddyK

Thanks for your response.
Unfortunately, I've been down that route. The "Integrated Camera", which should show up just above "Fingerprint Sensor" in that area of the BIOS, doesn't (show up that is).
The device was taken in for warranty service. First attempt was to replace the camera and associated cables... Didn't work. They've got a mainboard on order now.

Regards,

Gary
