HP EliteBook 840 G6 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Whenever my EliteBook 840 G6 is connected to my HP slim dock, the laptop overheats (hits 100c and periodically shuts down).  The fan runs constantly on the dock and it's moving air.

Running plugged in while off the dock (on hard surface that mimics the dock), the thing runs at 50c.

The base of the laptop seems to get very hot near the right side where the docking port connects.  Is there any lifespan to these slim docks?  This one is about 6 years old.  I cant think of any other reason why this is over heating only on the dock.

I have this dock for a 3 monitor system.

Windows and BIOS is all up to date.  I've blown out the air ports and the fan runs and moves air.  I run the laptop in an air conditioned room.
