I have an HP EliteBook 840 G7 running Win 11 24H2 which is connected to the power adapter 24/7. Machine was recently formatted and only windows updates and HP updates and system software have been installed. I have HP Power Manager 3.1.20.0 and the system BIOS Version S70 Ver. 01.21.00. In BIOS and HP Power Manager I have selected the option of maximize my battery health but no matter how much I have tried it keeps charging beyond 80%. I have tried changing it to a different options rebooting and shutting down and then changing back to maximize my health. I have tried doing this through the BIOS and I have tried doing this through the HP Power Manager software but it is still the same result when I switch back to maximize my battery health it always continues and charges beyond 80% and goes to 100%. I have scanned the system with HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows v2.8.0.0 and I have specifically done power adapter and battery test inclusive of all-other tests also which are always passed and there are no errors or issues reported. I have also tried running HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI – v10.8.1.0 but it also passes all tests and reports no errors. The battery is reported as calibrated and no issues reported. Can anyone help me fix this? I have tried setting a schedule in HP Power Manager but it does not achieve the exact result I am looking for also because it is meant for a different purpose.

@pierrerreip, Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP P204v 19.5-inch Monitor.
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!
If your HP EliteBook 840 G7 is persistently charging beyond 80% despite selecting the option to maximize battery health, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can follow:
-
Verify Power Management Settings:
- Ensure that the settings to limit battery charge are correctly configured in both the BIOS and HP Power Manager.
- Double-check the settings after a reboot to confirm they are saved properly.
-
Update BIOS and Software:
- Make sure your system BIOS and HP Power Manager are up to date. Even though your BIOS is at version 01.21.00 and HP Power Manager is at version 3.1.20.0, it is worth checking for newer updates.
- You can check for updates using the HP Support Assistant or visit the HP support website.
-
Power Cycle the Laptop:
- Shut down your laptop and disconnect it from the power supply.
- Remove the battery if it is removable (if not, skip this step).
- Hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Reconnect the battery and power supply, then boot the laptop.
-
BIOS Configuration:
- Access the BIOS setup (usually by pressing F10 during startup) and ensure the battery health management settings are set to your preference.
- Save and exit BIOS setup even if no changes were made—this can re-register the settings.
-
HP Power Manager Insights:
- Open HP Power Manager and ensure it reflects the correct settings. Sometimes, interface display errors might lead you to think a setting is incorrect.
- If the Power Manager is set correctly but not functioning as expected, consider uninstalling and then reinstalling the application.
-
Consider Battery Calibration:
- Occasionally, calibrating the battery can help resolve software detection issues. Follow standard procedures to discharge and recharge the battery fully.
Take care and have an amazing day!
