How RAM much can this 8540w take?It shipped with 4GB I added 4GB in the expansion slot.

I would like to add more

Hi,

Yes, it should support up to 32GB with quad core CPUs and 16GB with dual core.

If i select in "quad processor" it tells me I can go up to 32GB maximum memory 2 banks of 2 slots

Just a note

 

I opened it up and there is only 1 slot in the rear and 1 slot n the front (under the keyboard)

 

I would advise anyone else opens theirs up at the rear, and removes the DDR3 - under this you will see the boad type - mine is 595764-001 which only has 2 memory slots - 1 front  & 1 rear

This is something else you need to check before upgrading memory.

Model number  8540p or w?

no of processors - dual or quad?

no of slots available - 2 or 4?
