Product: HP EliteBook 840 G8 Notebook PC (19X36AV)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11
After two years, the Windows Hello on my HP Elitebook 840 G8 camera suddenly stopped working.
I have not tinkered with the settings or loaded new software for several months. It may have been triggered by a recent automatic Windows or the most recent BIOS update.
This only affects the inbuilt webcam. An external Logitech Brio camera at my work desk can be set up and works fine.
I have tried the standard gamut of tests readily found with a Google search.
- Reverting to the original 2006 Windows driver, uninstalling, and alternating with the current driver downloaded from the HP support site several times.
- Confirming the security settings allow access to the camera.
- I also cleared TMP in BIOS in an attempt reset current account settings.
- Checked the Local Group Policy settings for Biometrics and Camera settings.
I have retained access to the IR camera throughout, see my image, but cannot get past "Make sure your face is centred in the frame' as Cancel is the only option.
Any suggestions on what to try next?
