I am trying to help a friend who has an Elitebook x360 1040 G7. The laptop power button used to work, it no longer functions. Unable to force a shutdown or a fresh boot.
I tried these based on HP suggestions but nothing worked:
I unhooked all the external devices including the power - held down the power for 30+ seconds.
Then tried to power it back on
-Nothing
Did the same thing again, but then hooked the power cord back up and tried to power it on.
-Nothing
Tried holding down the power button for 60 seconds with the power plugged in.
-Nothing
Unable to access the battery to pull the battery.
When laptop is shut down from start menu, there is no light to indicate it is charging etc. power button press has no effect.
To power on, I had to unscrew the base of the laptop and disconnect the battery and reconnect. Then it booted up.
When I close the lid and let it sleep/hibernate, I cannot get it to come back on again without unscrewing back again and disconnecting battery step.
Not really sure what else to try from this point on.
