Hi all,
For over three years now I'm using a HP notebook without any problems. In those years, the capacity of the battery was getting a bit worse, but nevertheless I always could work with this Notebook.
Until a few weeks ago... suddenly I got a message (while booting) about the battery which had a very low charge. From that point on, the battery did not get charged at all. The battery icon in Windows stated: 0% available (on net power, battery isn't charging).
I tried to remove and reinstall the drivers, I removed and reinstalled the battery, but nothing helped. I'm using the original adapter.
HP hardware diagnostics gave me this error code: 9GC6KF-000928-GXGH7F-C0D103. But I cannot find anything on this message.
How can the battery suddenly become dead? Or is the motherboard dead? Can I just buy and install a new battery?
Thanks for your advice.
Rick

Hi,
You need to replace the battery as it has failed the hardware test. I usually replace batteries in notebook every two years for optimal performance.
The part number for the battery is 722297-005
If you search with the part number online you can find original or compatible products:
Example:
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=722297-005
or you can try HP parts store in your country:
https://parts.hp.com/hpparts/default.aspx
On page 44 of service manual you can see the steps to replace the battery.

You can also take a look at these HP videos for your model which can help with fix:

Let me know if you need further help,

Three years is a reasonable expectation for the service life for a notebook's main battery. With that said, it did not exactly suddenly die.
Of all of the components of notebooks, only the battery gets only a one year warranty. The same warranty period exists with a new battery.
The error code (failure code 601)translates to a failure of the notebook's battery.
You can replace it with a compatible battery. There is no requirement to purchase one from HP. You can get a better price on a guaranteed compatible battery from an online vendor for around $50.00 (at NewEgg.com.). See the following link for a search I did.
