Hey, Community! We have some couples of HP Elitebook 840 in our company. Since yesterday, 3 of them have got this issue;
USB type-c ports suddenly stop working, not responding to their chargers, dock stations, or anything else. Normal restart doesn't fix the issue but hard restart do (pressing and holding down the power button for like 20-30 secs). What could be issue? I searched about this in the community already but all the solutions were exact the same way that I did and none of them had an explanation that what could be the root cause and they were published long time ago like 3-4 years. I assume it could be some Windows/BIOS Updates that recently released and caused this. I wonder if anyone else suffers this problem nowadays?

That sounds like too much of a coincidence.
Did you have a specific USB type-C device connected to the laptops?
Which Elitebook 840?
You did not put the alphanumeric characters which show the generation after the partial identification that you provided.
It must be G + a number.
If it is a G1, they have exceeded their product life cycle and should be replaced.
The EliteBook 840 G1 is from the 2013-2015 model year.

Hello, Erico! Thanks for your answer!
They were one Elitebook 840 G8 and two G9.
They were connected respectively to HP Dock G5, Dell UD22, and HP chargers.
And they were working fine with these devices, for more than 1 year.

"(pressing and holding down the power button for like 20-30 secs"
That is a reset of the laptop Embedded Controller chip, also known as a hard reset.
There could be a firmware or internal electronic component issue.
Connecting an HP laptop to a Dell Dell UD22 could have caused the issue.
