Probook 6470b
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently upgraded the internal HGD with an SSD and noticed that there is an empty PCIE slot available. I am not sure if this is meant for a graphics card, as I bought it used and it’s possible to resell or removed the dedicated ATI that some of them come with, or if it’s reserved for something else. The Wi-Fi is in there and working and I’m talking about an additional slot that is above it. The onboard, integrated in till graphics card is absolute garbage and if I cannot figure out a way to upgrade it, this machine is useless. Can anybody guide me in the right direction? I have looked into the external GPU option, but it’s just too cumbersome and seems to be more trouble than it’s worth. Also, I have read in another thread on here that there are at least two different Intel core i7’s that will work with this computer and have watch the YouTube video tutorial. I have found used ones on eBay for only around $50. But upgrading the CPU without a better GPU seems like it would be pointless. Does anybody know what I’m talking about? Is there anyway to find out whether or not my version of the 6470B was supposed to come with the dedicated ATI card or not? It seems like there are a bunch of different variations of hardware configurations for this model. I wish it were more consistent like Apple.

Hi:

Looking at chapter 1 of the service manual, the slot is either for a WWAN (mobile broadband) adapter or a mSATA drive.

In any event the slot can't be used for a graphics card.

You may be able to see if your notebook was supposed to come with the optional Intel/AMD switchable graphics by entering the product number in the search window at the link below.

HP PartSurfer

The switchable graphics were an expensive option, and like the Intel GPU, the switchable graphics were also an integral part of the motherboard.  No tiny AMD video card was removed.

Take a look at the service manual, chapter 3 and you will see that there is a list of motherboards that have different graphics options.
