I just installed an SSD in my HP Pavilion 15 p051us laptop and need to verify the SATA AHCI mode is enabled. This laptop is AMD based A10 processor with AMD chipset. In device manager, there is no controller that is designated SATA AHCI. I only see AMD SATA Controller, ATA channel 0, ATA channel 1, and Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller listed under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers section in Device Manager.
I have the latest BIOS version F.46 loaded and nowhere in the BIOS am I able to confirm or configure the SATA mode.
I have read in some forums that some AMD SATA Controller drivers were released that did not use the AHCI designation in the displayed controller name in device manager but that they were AHCI enabled by default.
In other cases, I read that the appropriate SATA AHCI controller drivers need to be installed to support AHCI mode.
I just need to confirm if this laptop supports AHCI mode, verify that it is enabled, and resolve if needed.
I have verified via command prompt that TRIM is enabled but without verifying that SATA AHCI mode is supported/enabled, the TRIM functions the OS sends will be ignored by the SSD.
Please advise/help.
Thanks

Hi:
The drive controller in your notebook is set to AHCI and cannot be changed.
If you download the chipset driver file from AMD, you will see that it has AHCI driver files but the controller is simply named as a AMD SATA Controller instead of an AMD SATA AHCI controller.
There isn't a thing you can do about it, so just enjoy your SSD as it is.
If you don't think that the drive is automatically being trimmed, set the defragment and optimize drives program in Windows to trim the drive on a scheduled basis, such as weekly.
Now if you want to update the chipset driver to the latest version, you can do so at the link below, but it won't change the status of the drive controller. Select the W10 x64 driver, install and restart the PC.
