Common problems for Battery

I decided to replace the battery in my envy 13-ad010nr.  However when I attempted to remove the screws near the hinges the backing plastic bracket disintegrated.  I'm trying to figure out what I need to purchase to effectuate a repair.  I realize I should replace the hinges but I'm unable to determine what is required for replacement of the brackets.

By brackets I mean the black plastic 'blocks' that the hinges screw into.  These black plastic blocks have metal inserts to receive the screws from both the hinges and the bottom cover.

Can anyone enlighten me?  Are they discreet parts that somehow mount to the wrist wrest bezel?  Or are they molded into the wrist wrest bezel?

Thanks for the help..

Hi,

The hinges mount to the lower part of keyboard section of the notebook's enclosure. They are an integral part of the top cover assembly and are not seperate discrete parts. In order to repair what you  have inadvertently broken, the top cover assembly must be replaced. That means removing the system board and related parts.

Erico,

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond.  The included information is very useful.  However I have a follow up question:

The manual describes a multitude of part number for the top cover assembly (Part #2 on page 14). The color and region I can handle 🙂 but I"m unsure whether my system is "equipped with a graphics subsystem with discrete memory" or "equipped with a graphics subsystem with UMA memory".  I suspect the second as the specs say it has Intel integrated graphics.  Any chance you could clarify this for me?  Model: 13-ad010nr, ProID: 1KT02UA#ABAE

Thanks again for the help

Sure/

The specifications show me that your notebook uses the graphics that are integrated into the processor die (Intel® HD Graphics 620) and not a discrete (seperate) graphics chip or module on the system board.

A graphics subsystem with UMA memory what yours has.

That is memory being shared between the (Intel® HD Graphics 620) and storage for program processing.

I hope that is a better explaination.

I appreciate the confirmation.  I have additional questions about the repair, but I'll start new thread(s) to keep this thread clean.

FYI this video is a pretty good illustration of my issue.  His device is slightly different than mine but the fundamental problem is the same.

Thanks again for all the help

I had the same issues two years ago. I ended up using a strong glue to rebuild the plastic hinges. It has lasted till now

I saw a few youtube videos that performed the same 'fix'.  I didn't think I could make that work.

Getting a new top cover and moving all the components over was relatively easy.  I took the opportunity to loosen the cover hinges a little as well.  I replaced the battery (which was my initial intention).  All told the repair was successful and I expect the laptop to provide a few more years of reliable service.
