HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 13-ay0009ur

USB Type C port of my Envy 13-ay0009ur has stopped working recently. Device manager shows ACPI UCM-UCSI error code 43. I think this happened after upgrading bios firmware via Windows Update (I didn't even know that it can be upgraded like that) or after some other software update. BIOS is F.24-09/07/2023 now.

I've found the following thread: facing problem after updating Windows11 type-c USB output does not work

That person managed to fix USB Type C upgrading BIOS.

I've tried to update it manually using SP149222 but during the upgrade process it shows error "TI PD firmware update failed". Then I completely switched off Bitlocker, but it didn't help.

Here is the log from EFI\HP\DEVFW\HpDevFwUpdate.log when trying to write F24 firmware. I've also tried to downgrade to F21 but it doesn't include signature file, so update process doesn't even start.

Hi @Winand,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's unfortunate to hear that you're facing issues with your USB Type-C port after a BIOS update. Error code 43 in Device Manager usually indicates a hardware or driver issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.

Roll Back the Driver:

  • In Device Manager, locate the USB Type-C port that is showing the error.
  • Right-click on it and select "Properties."
  • Go to the "Driver" tab and click "Roll Back Driver" if the option is available. This will revert to the previous driver version.

Update the Driver:

  • If rolling back the driver doesn't work, try updating it.
  • Download the latest driver from the official HP support website for your Envy 13-ay0009ur model and install it manually.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that your operating system is up to date by checking for Windows updates. Sometimes, new updates may include fixes for hardware-related issues.

BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • Access the BIOS/UEFI settings during the system boot (usually by pressing a specific key like F2 or Del).
  • Check if there are any USB-related settings or configurations that might have changed with the BIOS update. If possible, revert any changes or reset to default settings.

Reinstall the USB Controllers:

  • In Device Manager, right-click on the USB controllers, and uninstall them.
  • Restart your computer. Windows will reinstall the USB drivers automatically.

System Restore:

  • If the issue started after a recent software update, you may consider using System Restore to revert your system to a state before the update.
  • Type "Create a restore point" in the Windows search bar, select the "System Restore" button, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Before attempting any of these steps, it's always a good idea to back up your important data.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

As I've mentioned I've tried to flash F24 firmware again. Also I've tried to downgrade to F23. But every time it fails to flash PD_F8.07.12.F9.36.BIN file, which I think has something to do with Type-C.

That file is not included in F21 bios version, but Envy doesn't allow me to flash it because of the absence of signature file in this firmware.

Also I've tried to hold down power button for 30-60 seconds as advised in other forum threads, but it also doesn't help.

Reinstalling ACPI UCM-UCSI device driver doesn't help.

Resetting BIOS settings doesn't help.
