I currently have 8 gb of ram. System is running slow. I have tried to remove startup applications that are not necessary. I ran malware so the only thing that I am questioning is the RAM and the windows version (Win10 Home). Can I expand my 8gb and if so any recommendation on the memory to buy?
Here are the specs:
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz 2.40 GHz
Installed RAM 8.00 GB
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Edition Windows 10 Home Version 22H2
Installed on 10/19/2020
OS build 19045.3803
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19053.1000.0

You're very welcome.
If your notebook has a free memory slot, you can install the memory chip I posted and it should work fine with the one that HP installed.
Another upgrade I recommend if you have not done so already, would be to replace the 2.5 " mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).

Hi:
What is the full model number or product number of your notebook?
Use this guide to find that information.

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
Chapter 1 has the memory upgrade information.
Your notebook has two memory slots and can support up to 2 x 8 GB of DDR3L-1600 memory.
If your notebook has a single 8 GB memory chip, this one should work in the empty slot:
Amazon.com: 8GB, 204-pin SODIMM, DDR3 PC3-12800, : Everything Else
If it has 2 x 4 GB of memory in order to max out the memory, you will have to remove both chips and install 2 x 8 GB of the above 8 GB chips.

Thank you for the response. Very helpful. If I have one of the 2 slots filled with 8GB, should I buy two of the same memory modules or does it matter f they are different vendors as long as they are both DDR3L-1600?

Received the memory upgrade today. Question... do I need to update the BIOS? I tried to get an update from HP and it says that the laptop model is not supported anymore. I am also reading that I would be playing with danger if I tried to update the BIOS. So before I add the memory , I wanted to ask. (Envy 15 - Product number = E1P04AV)

It shouldn't be necessary to update the BIOS to install additional memory.
