As the title says the bottom (black) and top (silver w keyboard) sections of my laptop case have begin to separate. It began at the back left near the screen hinge, and has continued along the entire back perimeter. I have gotten the parts #s for both through the parts department, but he was unable to tell me if one or both were necessary to replace. Or how difficult it will be. It appears this is a common issue but I haven't been able to find any information on resolution. Thanks for any help.

Hi @Wulfjosh

Welcome to the HP Forums!

It is a great way to engage, post questions and find resolutions by working with specialists in the HP community.

I reviewed your post and I understand that the hinges are loose and the back cover and keyboard are separating.

I’d love to help!

Refer to the below service manual (Page 59) on how to replace the hinges on your computer.

Its normaly the top case lugs that break on them they are prone for it. The mainboard and everything elese has to come off including the keybiard and keyboard bracket. I would recomend someone doing it for you as you could damage cables and shock the mainboard if your not using esd

Ahha! This is just the answer I was looking for. I suspected it must be the lugs on the top enclosure. I've built desktops before, but admittedly have little experience with laptops. I am familiar with not shocking the circuitry and have the tools so will probably undertake this myself. Thanks for your help.

The_Fossette: This was not quite correct. The hinges are in fine shape, it is the top Enclosure which needs replacement as ajsupreem has pointed out above. The manual you provided does not explicitly cover this, though it looks like it does contain instructions for the removal of the system board & keyboard assembly, which would in effect explain the process. Thank you for that link.
