I am writing to report an issue with my HP Envy 15 x360 laptop, which is still under warranty until 2026.
The problem occurs when I am using demanding software such as Solidworks or AutoCAD, and the laptop is connected to the charger. Despite being plugged in, the battery continues to drain. This happens even when the battery is initially at 100%. For example, if I start using Solidworks or AutoCAD with the laptop fully charged and plugged in, the battery will gradually deplete until it reaches 15%. Once the battery level drops to around 15%, the laptop's performance significantly degrades, making it impossible to continue my work or studies. If I unplug the charger and then plug it back in, the performance temporarily improves for approximately 5 minutes before the issue reoccurs.
This issue severely impacts my ability to use the laptop for its intended purpose, especially with resource-intensive applications. I believe this is not normal behavior for a laptop connected to its power adapter.
Could you please provide assistance with this matter?

@Žygimantas1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Battery Draining While Plugged In Under Load on HP Envy 15 x360!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It seems like your HP Envy 15 x360 laptop is experiencing battery drain even while connected to the charger during high-demand usage. Here are some steps and considerations to help resolve this issue:
Check Charger Specifications: Ensure that you are using the original HP charger that came with your laptop or a charger that matches the specifications required by your HP Envy 15 x360. Using a charger with insufficient power output can cause the battery to drain under heavy load.
Power Settings: Verify your power settings to ensure that they are optimized for performance when plugged in:
- Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep.
- Click on Additional power settings.
- Select High performance mode.
Battery Health: Check the health of your battery using HP Battery Check:
- Type HP Battery Check in the search bar and run the tool.
- The tool will provide insights into the health and status of your battery.
Background Applications: Close unnecessary background applications to reduce the load on the CPU and GPU.
- Open Task Manager (press Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and end tasks that are consuming significant resources but not required.
Driver Updates: Make sure all your drivers are updated, especially the graphics drivers which are crucial for software like Solidworks and AutoCAD.
- Visit HP Support and go to the Drivers & Downloads section.
- Download the latest drivers for your specific laptop model.
Thermal Management: Ensure that the laptop’s ventilation is unobstructed and the cooling system is functioning efficiently. Overheating can cause power delivery issues and subsequent battery drain.
- Use the laptop on a hard, flat surface.
- Consider using a cooling pad if necessary.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

I’d like to provide some additional context based on the troubleshooting steps I’ve already taken:
Charger: I am using the original HP charger that came with the laptop.
Battery Health: I ran the HP Battery Check diagnostic tool, and it reports: Primary Battery – Normal.
Power Settings: My system is set to High Performance mode.
Drivers: All drivers, including graphics drivers, are fully updated via HP Support.
Thermal Management: The laptop is not overheating, and the cooling system is functioning efficiently. It is used on a cooling pad with proper ventilation.
Background Applications: When working, I only use SolidWorks or AutoCAD. All unnecessary background programs are closed.
Despite all of this, the issue still persists—my battery continues to drain under load even while plugged in.
I'd appreciate any further insights or solutions you might have.

@Žygimantas1, thank you so much for your detailed update — I can imagine how frustrating it must be to watch your battery slip away even when you're plugged in and working hard on demanding tasks.
Since you've already ruled out the usual suspects — charger, battery health, drivers, power settings, and even thermal limits — the consistent battery drain under load could point to power delivery limitations from the charger or firmware-level power throttling.
Next steps you can try:
BIOS Update & Reset:
Even if your drivers are updated, check for a BIOS update from the HP Drivers & Support site.
After updating, enter BIOS (press Esc > F10 during startup) and choose “Restore Defaults” > Save and Exit.
Check Wattage Draw:
Use HP Power Assistant or HWInfo to see how much power the laptop draws under load.
Some high-performance models can exceed the power a standard adapter can deliver (e.g., 90W vs demand of 120W+), leading to battery assist during peaks.
Test with a Higher Wattage Adapter (if available):
If you can, try a compatible HP 120W or 150W adapter (depending on your exact configuration) to test if the issue persists.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
